Also, if you're interested in supporting Melissa and her family, there's a 5k fun run in support of her brother-in-law.  It's at Kiwanis park, 9:30.

Here are the details: Melissa's brother-in-law was recently diagnosed with stage 4 melanoma and given a prognosis of 9 mos. He just graduated from BYU and had not found a job yet when it all struck. He has no income and no life insurance. He does have some savings that they are living on but that won't last long. They live in Provo and a friend of theirs is putting on a 5k race for them. The race is on Nov. 13th at 9:30. Here is a link to the website

Scare Away Cancer 5k

So, what does everyone have planned for October 30?  Might I suggest a spooky 5k to scare away cancer? I have a friend who's daughter was diagnosed with leukemia 12 years ago and is still fighting.  They are doing a benefit 5k in her honor on October 30 at 9:00, Orem High School.  The cost is $10 for adults and $5 for kids.  Costumes encouraged.

Any takers?  We could maybe run a few, then head to the 5k....

1) First, the run is 5:15 at the church by Triabry's house for 7 miles.

2) Second, you and yours (significant other, spouse, kids) are officially invited to the Nth annual Crackodawn Carb Celebration. We don't care if you're running St George, or if you are not running St George, all we care about is that you come to the celebration and bring some carbs. We also want to meet 'n greet your family and whatnot, so bring them with the carbs.

Date: Wednesday, Sept 29
Time: 6:00pm
Place: Scera Park in Orem. Historically we've used the pavilion just north of the Scera Pool. Enter from State Street.
Bring: Your special friends or live-ins
Also Bring: Salad, dessert, or carb dish (note that they're all carbs.)
Inclement Weather: There won't be inclement weather, record heat this year.


I'll bring the plates, cutlery and a tablecloth or two. If you have a tablecloth bring that. Also, can someone volunteer to bring a jug of water with cups?

Also, in other news, from Trail Trekker:  Steve Earl's wife, Keli Anne, had a heart attack on their bike ride Monday morning. They were on the road above Timpanogas Park when she began having trouble breathing. A sheriff just happened to drive along & Steve flagged him to a stop. The ambulance arrived, equip with a brand new, high-tech piece of equiptment that allowed the ekg they took in the ambulance to be completed while in transit & then sent to the hospital so upon arrival, Keli Anne was rushed into surgery with the doctors prepared for what procedure was needing to be performed. 

Rich & I visited her this morning & she is looking well. Steve was in good spirits also. They inserted a balloon into one of her main arteries & cleaned it out, good as new. She will be home from the hospital tomorrow if all goes well. I know how much all of your thoughts & prayers were a strength to me during my recovery & thought that the Earls could use that benefit right now as well.

The plan is Hope Campground to Hobble Creek Golf Course (24 miles).  I think we threw around the prospect of meeting at the mouth of Provo canyon at 5:30.  Let's discuss details, shall we?  Some are talking about starting at Hope Campground and doing an out and back.  The Twin Towers (aka Lewis and Clark) have generously offered some vehicle droppings in Hobble Creek canyon.  But we'll need a count of who's planning to go and whatnot so that we can plan accordingly.

The plan is to leave cars at the Hobble Creek 1/2 finish, drive to the golf course, run up and then ALL THE WAY DOWN!  Fun!  Mileage discussed was between 18 to 20-21.  Thoughts?  We're trying to nail down runs by Friday morning so that we don't have the mad text 'n call and e-mail commotion that seems to transpire on Friday.  (hint... hint...)

• Travel to Highland Highway. Also called SR 92 or 11000 North (Road running East/West that goes to American Fork Canyon)
• Turn NORTH on 6000 West
• Turn LEFT at stop sign, 11800 North or Westfield Road
• Church is 1/2 a mile on the left

5:30 and 6:00 AM Where Geneva Road meets Provo River in Provo.
Talking at the gym this morning, decided on a bit of different scenery.
This is where there is a small parking lot on the west side of Geneva Road, we run under the road on the Provo River Trail, Those who want more miles can meet at 5:30, then will meet back with others at 6. This should be 10-15 minutes from most of your homes. Let us know if there are issues. I won't be able to post after about 3 PM today.
