Albertson's parking lot (1600 North State in Orem) at 7:00
or
Tibble Fork Dam at 7:30
To get to Tibble Fork, drive east on the American Fork Canyon road. Follow the road past the Timp Cave parking lot. You'll eventually get to a fork in the road. Take the left fork and drive northish until you see a smallish lake and parking lotish. Park by the dam (the dam is BEFORE the parking lot).
or
Soccer Park, 7:00am
Did I get the directions right? Please respond if I did not.
Parks Sportsman ('bout 700 North State Orem) rents snowshoes for $9. You can pick them up any time after 3:00pm on Friday.

p.s. Sorry Ms. Mileage for bailing on you - I'm still shivering! (Even after the tub and a fire and 18 blankets and the thermostat set to 80.)
I seem to remember some mumbling about snowshoeing taking place. The Great Stan and compadres are leaving the Tibble Fork Dam at 7:00 a.m., and are planning on a 4 hour round trip.
Cracker and I usually show up half an hour late and play catch-up. If others wanted to join in this plan, a carpool from Albertson's on 1600 North & State departing shortly after 7:00 a.m. seems appropriate. Those coming from the North might just want to schlep themselves up there. (I must be home by 10:30 at the latest for a family rebellion of sorts, so I would be following the carpool, turning around early, and missing out on some of the work.)
Dress one layer warmer than you would for a run, acquire some snowshoes (rent, beg, borrow, etc) and show up. Don't let the snowshoe vendor give you excessively large shoes - 25" max - if you're renting.
Any takers? Any suggested modifications to the plan, or does this seem like it will work?
Ok, first to Rabid...you are awesome! You stuck with a most undesirable, wet, frigid situation this morning even though you desperately didn't want to. You are a true survivor! The only reason I could go a little farther was because my running pants were slightly more waterproof than yours. I too hope we can have a running day like that again soon! Not.
Next...The snow shoeing sounds fun. Does anyone know if you can rent from Parks? I would like to be done by 10:30 at the latest also so my family doesn't turn into beasts while I'm gone (and that includes my husband!)Actually I'm trying to convince him to come to. We'll have to see. Oh, one more thing...do you bring nuritionment and water?
Parks does rent snowshoes the last time I checked (several years ago. They were in the ski shop.
Solid nutrition and fluids are in order.
Sounds like ms mileage and I are on the same schedule.
Sounds like fun and this time I WILL be in town but I need directions....or whatever
It sounds like the plan has been officially endorsed.
Park by the dam, not in the parking lot on the other side of the lake. (Unless, of course, you wish to walk the road from the parking lot to the dam, or break the ice and swim across the lake.)
Who is meeting at the Albertson's parking lot at 7:00? I will be doing the carpool thing so I need to know who to watch for. Hopefully someone who has been to Tibble Fork before because I have not.
I love the snow and mountains...but I don't think my hip issues will really take to that workout. I will just do a run in Orem-have fun and don't get lost!
I'd love to car pool. Please save me a seat! I'm sure others could use a ride too (Jillene, Phil, ...etc).
Hey, what about avalanche danger? A good friend was telling me that it could be high risk on Saturday. Does anyone know?
Merci.
Please save me a seat in the carpool to the damn. See ya there at Albertsons @7am on sat. Tenho novidades.
You can rent from BYU or Out n back also.
Becareful of the snow and snow slides.
Joanne and I are going also, we just do not know where. We may go to granite flats or Big Spring.
I am going a bit before and after I meet downhill diva @ the soccer field @ 7AM, she is coming back from her injury and wants around 8 miles. Anyone who doesn't go in the snow is welcome to join us.
Thanks for the info, Triabry... I'll post it.
Also, it appears as though zee docteur is also a weatherman! Who is this that's so wise in the ways of the world?
I spoke with a seasoned avalanche professional. He says that if the sun shines and the snow settles a bit, we should be okay (the sun is currently shining). If another storm comes, we should avoid back country exploration.
Either way, avalanche danger now is at red (see www.avalanche.org/~uac)which is one step below extreme which is also one step below the most dangerous, which is one step above exciting, which is time for me to shut up. Bye.
Joanne and I are going to snow shoe Big String. The terrain will not be quite as steep and the avalanche danger shouldn't as high.
I think that we are going to hit the parking lot at 7:30 am. You are welcome to join us, but I am not certain if ms.milage could keep up.
You're so right!
